About the Designer…

Photo Paula Nurse

Born into a musical family, Paula (nee Elsner) Nurse grew up in Hawaii singing in church and playing guitar. She began her professional career as a back up singer for the Don Ho Show in Waikiki and for the next 25 years continued a successful career in the entertainment industry in Hawaii and internationally.

Eventually drawn into the world of crystals and gemstones, Paula created Starseed Beads & Gems in the historic little town of Honokaa on the Big Island of Hawaii. For over 10 years she created jewelry there that can only be called pieces of art utilizing the beauty and energy of gemstones that she collects from around the world. In 2005, she sold her shop to devote her time solely to designing.

Originality, design and color are uniquely characteristic of Paula's work. She loves working with ‘high vibrational’ gemstone beads such as rubies, emeralds, tanzanite, and sapphires. However, her work is not limited by any means to these stones but encompasses all different types of beautiful and unusual gemstones.

Each piece is an original creation designed and made in Hawaii by Paula. Her passion is to capture every facet of the beads she is working with to create a special one-of-a-kind piece. She has also designed for special commissions and her clientele come from all over the United States to have special pieces designed just for them.
